Snow lovers jam for the cause
The fifth annual Mum's the Word Rail Jam event in 2015 raised more than $18,000 for Cancer Council Victoria.
The event began after a local family lost their mother to cancer in 2011, initially raising $7000 in its first year.
Friend of the family, Andy Terhell began the fundraiser to raise awareness and support Cancer Council Victoria's work.
It was started to raise money for the Cancer Council after a colleague's mother passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. His family was so grateful for the fundraising efforts of a small group of snowboard instructors that we have made the event annual and will continue to do so as long as we can," Andy said.
Also known as a ‘jam' snowboarders and skiers come together at the event in Mount Hotham for a free, non-competitive session where people can have fun and provide support for those affected by cancer.
It has grown each year, as more and more skiers and snowboarders sign up for the cause.
